Children's services in Sonoma County are often housed in tumble down, dark buildings, corporate business centers or retail strip malls. We believe
that children deserve to be in attractive, light and inviting settings,
with a safe place to play outdoors. We believe that children should be
able to receive services in their own community
not have to travel
to Oakland, Sacramento or San Francisco to see specialists.
Our vision is for this facility to provide room for growth of the Early Learning Institute's current programs, which include: play-based early intervention, developmental screenings, & specialty services: OT, PT, Speech Therapy, etc. In addition, new programs will be developed, such as indoor therapeutic aquatics, horticultural therapy, art therapy, music/movement therapy, and preschool options. We would also like to establish an adaptive tech computer lab within the Center.
This Center will provide a central connecting place for community partners. The Center will provide shared space for specialists in genetics, orthopedics and neurology, developmental pediatricians, and mental health services. Innovative service providers may include hippo therapy, parental education projects, and inclusive dental/nutritional programs.
World-renowned Architect, Richard Meier, has agreed to donate his design services for the establishment of this new Children's Center. Estimates are that it will take 6-8 million dollars to establish a Center of this kind. A capital campaign is currently under way. The Chiat Foundation has pledged to underwrite the cost of the campaign and has also made a significant pledge towards the success of this project.
